Anxiety and Sedation

Feeling Anxious?

We all feel anxious in life at times – and it’s no different for our little patients.  Our goal is to help our patients be as comfortable and successful as possible while we help them with their dental needs.  We pride ourselves on our specialty in working with patients with dental anxiety.  We offer a variety of approaches that range from heartfelt TLC, to proven behavior management techniques, to a variety of sedation options.  If you feel that your child may be anxious, please let us know!  Our promise is to work closely with your child and your family to make your visits to the dentist the best they can possibly be.

Nitrous Oxide Analgesia

Laughing gas is the common term for Nitrous Oxide, a safe and mild method used during dental procedures. Your child will be awake and responsive throughout the procedure, in a more relaxed state.

Because this type of dentistry is short-lived with a gentle effect, it is often used for children. Nitrous oxide puts patients at ease to remain relaxed during dental procedures allowing the anxious child a more pleasant dental experience! We customize each case individually and will discuss sedation only if necessary.

General Anesthesia

Sometimes our patients need a little more help than the use of nitrous oxide.  In these situations, our doctors are available to treat your child under general anesthesia in either an office setting OR in an operating room setting.  If you’d prefer an office setting, we work with a pediatric anesthesiologist who comes to our Abington office to treat your child.  Together with North East Anesthesia, we will work to ensure your child’s comfort and safety while addressing all of their oral rehabilitation needs.

If you prefer an OR setting, our practice is happy to bring your family to Franciscan Hospital for Children in Brighton, MA where our doctors have operating room privileges.  Our doctors are happy to speak with you regarding all of these options and to determine what is right for your child!  Please contact us to learn more!
